Overview

The 2017 South Pole Ice Core science meeting will be on September 19-20 in Seattle, Washington. The meeting will be restricted to funded PIs and their staff and students.

The meeting will be held in the Yukon Pacific Room at the University of Washington Club. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Watertown Hotel.

  • Last day to register for meeting at $100 price point

August 19

  • Last day to register for meeting at $150 price point
  • Last day to reserve a hotel room at the group rate at the Watertown Hotel (see below for more info)

Agenda

The agenda will be forthcoming once we have a list of talks from the registration. We plan to meet Tuesday, September 19, from ~8:30-5:00. On Tuesday night, we will gather at the Agua Verde Café for a group dinner, which is included in the registration fee. On Wednesday, September 20, we will plan on meeting at ~8:30AM and hope to wrap up around 3:00PM.

Registration

To register for the meeting, complete the secure ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM by AUGUST 1. The registration fee is $100 and only online registrations/payments will be accepted. Registrations after August 1 will include an additional $50 late fee. Registrations will not be accepted after August 19.

** Please register early!! This really helps us with the planning for the meeting. **

Registration for the meeting is now closed. Questions should be directed to contact 'at' spicecore 'dot' org.

A light breakfast, snacks during breaks, and lunch are included in the registration fee, along with dinner at the Agua Verde Café.

Talks

If you would like to give a talk at the meeting, please indicate so on the registration form. The South Pole Ice Core science committee will ultimately decide on the talks that are accepted for the meeting.

You do NOT need to submit the title or abstract of your talk when you register, so don't wait to register. Please register *now*. It really helps us if you register early.

You have until September 1 to email the details of your talk (title, authors, abstract) to contact at spicecore dot org.

Plan to speak for 15 minutes with an additional 5 minutes for fielding questions (20 minutes total).

Posters

If you would like to present a poster at the meeting, please indicate so on the registration form.

You do NOT need to submit the title or abstract of your poster when you register, so don't wait to register. Please register *now*. It really helps us if you register early.

You have until September 1 to email the details of your poster (title, authors, abstract) to contact at spicecore dot org.

In the event we receive more requests for posters than we can accommodate, posters with topics that are South Pole Ice Core specific will take priority over non-South Pole Ice Core specific posters.

Posters must be PORTRAIT STYLE and no larger than 36" WIDE (x 60" TALL).

The meeting will be held in the Yukon Pacific Room at the University of Washington Club. It is about a mile walk from the hotel to the Yukon Pacific Room.

Individuals must make their own reservation. Guests must e-mail reservations@staypineapple.com or call 866-944-4242 by Saturday, August 19, to secure their guest rooms. Guests should reference "South Pole-University of New Hampshire" to receive the group rate. The group rate is $149.00 plus tax.

The "cut-off date" for accepting reservations into this room block is Saturday, AUGUST 19. Reservation requests received after 5:00PM local time at the hotel on the cut-off date will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis.

Travel

People need to arrange for their own travel from the airport to/from the hotel.

Taxi
We estimate ~$50-55 from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) to the Watertown Hotel. Uber and Lyft are also available.

Light Rail
There is a light rail that goes from the Sea-Tac airport to Husky Stadium, U Washington. Husky Stadium is about a mile from the Watertown Hotel. Fares are less than $4.00 each way. Visit https://www.soundtransit.org/schedules/link-light-rail for more information.

Alternatively, we have a RIDE-SHARING BOARD for those of you who are renting cars and can offer rides to others or who need a ride, or for those of you who want to share a cab ride.

Group Dinner

Please plan on joining us for a Mexican buffet and cash bar on Tuesday, September 19, from 6-9PM at the waterfront Agua Verde Café. The registration fee covers the group dinner for the person registered. If you would like to bring a guest or children to the dinner, please note this on the registration form. Cost for those not registered:
Adult: $40
Children (5-16 yr): $10
