WHAT

The 2019 South Pole Ice Core science meeting will be on September 17-18 in Seattle, Washington.

The meeting will be held in the Ocean #425 Conference Room of the Ocean Sciences Building (OCN) at the University of Washington. A block of hotel rooms has been reserved at the University Inn.

WHERE

The meeting will be held in the Ocean #425 Conference Room of the Ocean Sciences Building (OCN). It is about a 15-minute (0.7 mile) walk from the University Inn to the Ocean Sciences Building (OCN).

Deadlines

August 5

  • Last day to register for meeting at $75 price point

August 16

  • Last day to register for meeting at $125 price point
  • Last day to reserve a hotel room at the group rate at the University Inn (see below for more info)

REGISTRATION

To register for the meeting, complete the secure online registration form by August 5. The registration fee is $75 and only online registrations/payments will be accepted. Registrations after August 5 will include an additional $50 late fee. Registrations will not be accepted after August 16.

A light breakfast, snacks during breaks, and lunch are included in the registration fee, along with dinner at the Agua Verde Cafe.

Talks

If you would like to give a talk at the meeting, please indicate so on the registration form. The South Pole Ice Core science committee will ultimately decide on the talks that are accepted for the meeting.

You do NOT need to submit the title or abstract of your talk when you register, so don't wait to register. Please register *now*. It really helps us if you register early.

You have until AUGUST 26 to email the details of your talk (title, authors, abstract) to contact at spicecore dot org.

Posters

If you would like to present a poster at the meeting, please indicate so on the registration form.

You do NOT need to submit the title or abstract of your poster when you register, so don't wait to register. Please register *now*. It really helps us if you register early.

You have until AUGUST 26 to email the details of your poster (title, authors, abstract) to contact at spicecore dot org.

In the event we receive more requests for posters than we can accommodate, posters with topics that are South Pole Ice Core specific will take priority over non-South Pole Ice Core specific posters.

LODGING

University Inn

We have reserved a block of rooms for Mon, Tues, and Weds night at the University Inn. When making a reservation, refer to the booking code SOUTHPOLE19 to receive the group rate.

Individuals must make their own reservations. Reservations must be made *before* Saturday, August 17, 2019 to receive the group rate. The group rate is $189/night, plus tax.

Please note that the online booking code and link will only work for the contracted room nights (Mon-Weds; 9/16-9/18). If you need to come in early or stay a day later, you need to make your reservation by calling the hotel's reservations department at 866-866-7977 or by emailing them at reservations@staypineapple.com.

TRAVEL

People need to arrange for their own travel from the airport to/from the hotel.

Taxi
We estimate ~$60 from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac) to the University Inn. Uber and Lyft are also available.

Light Rail
There is a light rail that goes from the Sea-Tac airport to Husky Stadium, U Washington. Husky Stadium is about a mile from the University Inn. Fares are less than $4.00 each way. Visit https://www.soundtransit.org/schedules/link-light-rail for more information.

Alternatively, we have a RIDE-SHARING BOARD for those of you who are renting cars and can offer rides to others or who need a ride, or for those of you who want to share a cab ride.

Group Dinner

Please plan on joining us for a Mexican buffet and cash bar on Tuesday, September 17, from 6-9PM at the waterfront Agua Verde Cafe. The registration fee covers the group dinner for the person registered. If you would like to bring a guest or children to the dinner, please note this on the registration form. Cost for those not registered:
Adult: $35
Children (5-16 yr): $10
